Maleic anhydride is a colorless needlelike or flaky crystalline with irritant odour and sour, inflammable and sublimating. It can be freely dissolved in water to form maleic acid. The relative density is 1.480, the melting point is 52.85 0 C and the boiling point is 202 0 C . Maleic anhydride is mainly used for producing unsaturated polyester resins. It is also used in coating, pharmaceutics, agricultural insecticide, additives of oil products and plastics, surfactant, etc. It is also used for producing some important chemical raw material such as 1.4-butylene glycol and tetrahydrofuran.
