Maleic Anhydride

Maleic anhydride is a colorless needlelike or flaky crystalline with irritant odour and sour, inflammable and sublimating. It can be freely dissolved in water to form maleic acid. The relative density is 1.480, the melting point is 52.85 0 C and the boiling point is 202 0 C . Maleic anhydride is mainly used for producing unsaturated polyester resins. It is also used in coating, pharmaceutics, agricultural insecticide, additives of oil products and plastics, surfactant, etc. It is also used for producing some important chemical raw material such as 1.4-butylene glycol and tetrahydrofuran.

At present based on the raw material route there are 4 methods for producing maleic anhydride: benzene oxidation, normal butane oxidation,C4 olefin, benzene anhydride subsidiary product. The normal butane oxidation method takes the leading place among the 4 methods. It occupies about 80% of the total capacity in the word. The benzene oxidation method developed by our company and CHINESE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES is the most advanced method at present in the world. The production cost is much lower than the normal butane oxidation method. It will gradually replace the old method.
